We were asked to review an established, multiple-site, public sector Pathology Network to find opportunities for improving services and furthering the interests of stakeholders. And we were to consider options for the development of the network.
So we gathered data that described the costs and activities of the laboratories within the network. And we interviewed key personnel to understand how the network functioned and what benefits accrued from joint working.
We were able to highlight good practice, where it existed, and we pinpointed the theoretical benefits and synergies of a network that were not being realised. We made recommendations for improving productivity and the effective use of assets (both capital and human).
