Process improvement - NHS Hospital Trust

Under pressure to boost its productivity and cut costs, an NHS Trust asked us to test the feasibility of applying rigorous techniques to improve its main processes.

Methods and tools honed in business were brought to bear on the effectiveness of the procedures used to treat acute clinical patients. The study showed the Trust how to pinpoint weaknesses and waste and to make simple improvements in ways of working to gain great benefits.

We use tools and techniques only where they are appropriate and have shown their value. Fashions change. So does the popularity of methods. But good ones, applied rigorously, stay valid. ‘Lean’, ‘Value Stream Mapping’, ‘Process Activity’ and ‘Six-Sigma’ are robust. And in Healthcare, they work.
