Healthcare in the UK is a large and complex sector. Big changes - such as the move to a 'patient-led NHS' and 'practice-based commissioning' - take up a lot of effort. More and more procedures are on offer. Priorities compete for resources. And new providers are emerging.

All this makes the healthcare managers’ tasks more complex. Clinicians, nurses, managers, members of the public – they all have ideas about how healthcare should be organised. But there is no single answer. One size does not fit all.
