Workforce Development

A large national healthcare organisation was looking at its performance. Feedback suggested that the service users were unhappy with the long delays. Plans were made to add resources, redesign processes and find better methods of work. But these were only part of the answer. Another way to boost efficiency would be to plan and develop the workforce more effectively.

Lots of tools and techniques were freely available to help do this. But they were not always easy to find. And it was not clear which were the most effective and relevant. So, we made a quick review of what was available to find the ones that were up to the job.

We knew that the new ways of work would have a big impact on the types of competence needed. So we advised the senior managers to focus on the demand for and supply of people with those skills. We recommended the tools that would help them to plan the workforce in this way. And we guided their thinking on how to plug any gaps in the toolkit.
